Segundo o Dnit, os novos equipamentos vão monitorar mais de cinco faixas em rodovias federais pelo prazo de cinco anos. Durante este período, o governo federal investirá R$ 773,3 milhões no programa, com recursos previstos no Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento (PAC).     Serão 1.130 barreiras eletrônicas ou lombadas eletrônicas nas áreas urbanas das rodovias federais. Outros 466 equipamentos serão instalados para fiscalizar o avanço de sinal vermelho e a parada sobre faixa de pedestres. Nos trechos rurais das rodovias federais serão 1.100 radares fixos.      A instalação dos radares e lombadas eletrônicas faz parte do Programa Nacional de Controle Eletrônico de Velocidade (PNCV) já executado pelo Dnit e que visa reduzir os acidente de trânsito em áreas urbanas e rurais. A Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) realizou estudos técnicos para decidir a localização de cada tipo de equipamento.
